The Medical Library and Information Science Department of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences began admitting students for the undergraduate day program in September 2001, through the efforts of two faculty members: Mr. Abdolnabi Arabzadeh (the then head of the department) and Dr. Firouzeh Zare-Farashbandi. Currently, the department has five full-time faculty members (three associate professors, one assistant professor, and one committed faculty member), and it is headed by Dr. Zivar Sabaghi Nejad. It is worth noting that the department started admitting Master's students in 2012 and continues to do so every September. After a brief pause, the department resumed admitting undergraduate students in 2021, and since September of that year, undergraduate students in Medical Library and Information Science have been studying in this department.
